the sedgehurst clumber kennels

The Sedgehurst kennels in recent years has concentrated on breeding a clumber for today's shooting owner. Its priorities of working ability, health, and temperament have borne fruit in several generations of handsome, strong and purposeful clumbers. These dogs full of life sound with consistently low hip scores, trainable and likeable. These dogs have been bred from well proven stock, lean and active, but well muscled, happy to do a full days work, jump in and out of a 4wd vehicle. Raised and trained on an area rich in game, they are equally successful in rough shooting, picking up, driven sport or working competitions. Sedgehurst Clumbers include Sedgehust Tormentum (Wooster) with 15 field trials to his name, and Sedgehurst Hawkridge (Rufus) with 18 field trials to his name including a 3rd in an AV novice spaniel trial, running against 16 Springer's & 1 cocker, so that was a good day for Rufus. Also Sedgehurst Tempest (Titus) with 4 field trial awards to his name in his short career so far.

We are now five generations down the line from our original breeding parents, breeding fit working dogs. Getting consistently low hip scores from our breeding. Our dogs are all placed in working homes either rough shooting, driven shooting, or for competition. We like to keep in contact with all our new owners, and get to hear the progress of our breeding over the years. There are now a lot of good Sedgehurst Clumbers in the field and doing very well in Minority breed Field trials with many awards between them.

Dogs at Stud and puppies occasionally available. Dogs taken in for training, shooting days can be arranged with accommodation www.leyscottages.co.uk for more details contact John or Debbie Zurick Tel: 01643 831427 or email: zurick@foxtwitchen.fsnet.co.uk

Field trial winner Scherzando Hamish has sired three of our litters of pups at the age of 10. Young Withy & Titus are example of them, now four years of age Sadly Hamish has died recently at the age of 12 nearly 13, will be missed a really good shooting dog & companion We have recently bought into our kennels Inga who was bred in England out of Ammil and sired by Melker a Swedish dog and we have Otto from Sweden who is out of our English dog Foxy & a Swedish bitch Betty. So new and exciting ways for the future.

Newhill Nightingale Venaticus (Floss) are foundation bitch for our Sedgehurst line.
• Hip score: total of 15 (7/8)
• Good clear eyes
• Good working ability, keen retriever, strong hunter.
• White & Orange
• Good shape, lean, well muscled with a waist, still very healthy at 15 years of age.
• Temperament superb, but can be stubborn in her nature!
• Floss has laid the foundations of a healthy working line of Clumbers.

Then to find the right sire for her, Scherzando Chieftain (Tank) Hip score total 28, little higher than I would of preferred, but remembering the average was 42 at that time. But he had so many other fine qualities, his temperament was gentle, willing to please, good fine healthy active dog, with a lighter frame, but strong handsome head. White & orange, with an excellent working record in the field, with even a Field trial award to his name. His father also had a 00 hip score, which is coming through, with consistently low hips scores within our litters.
